Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of abundance, prosperity and good fortune, is often shown seated on a lotus, with gold coins spilling from her open hand. In this linocut she is carved in bold, flowing lines, radiating calm and generosity.
This is a test print, pulled while I was working out the block and testing the carving. Test prints have a raw, immediate quality that finished editions sometimes lose. You can see the hand of the maker in every line, and the black ink sits richly against the paper.
