The coal tit is one of Britain's smallest and most charming garden birds. It is easy to recognise by its glossy black cap, the bold white patch on the back of its neck, and soft buff underparts. It is a quick, acrobatic visitor to feeders and conifer woodland, darting in to snatch a seed and stash it away for later.
This linocut was made from four separate hand-carved blocks, each printed by hand in turn. Every colour is built up layer by layer, with careful registration so each block sits exactly in place. The result has the depth, texture and slight variation that only a handmade print can offer.
